If you live in Texas and feel the need to get away from everything, there are many great places to do so. These places offer fun and relaxation and can help you escape from everyday life. Here are some of the best weekend trips in the Lone Star State:
1. Waco
Waco is great if you love wildlife. Not only can you visit the Cameron Park Zoo, but you can also take a cruise along the majestic Brazos River, where you are sure to spot all kinds of interesting wildlife. If shopping is more your thing, you will enjoy the Magnolia Market, which is owned by Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines. You can also top off your stay with a visit to the Dr. Pepper Museum.
2. Wimberley
Wimberley is the perfect place to kick back and relax. Among the many things to do there include:
- Viewing the valley by zip line
- Touring the art galleries
- Watching the fine artisans at the Glassworks create works of art made of glass
- Watching olive oil get produced at Bella Vista Ranch
- Watching a movie outdoors at the Corral Theatre
You can also visit the Jacob’s Well Natural Area, which offers both swimming and wildlife guides.
3. New Braunfels
There is no need to fly all the way to Germany to experience German culture and cuisine. New Braunfels offers this just a short distance from San Antonio. This is especially true if you visit in November, during which the town hosts a 10-day German festival called Wurstfest, which offers food, music, and dancing. You can also explore caves at the Natural Bridge Caverns and bring your kids to the Schlitterbahn Waterpark. Finally, you can cap off your evenings at Gruene Hall, which is the oldest dance hall in Texas.
4. Galveston
Galveston is a great place to walk around and gaze at the impressive buildings, such as Moody Mansion and Bishop’s Palace. It is also a place where you can spend the entire weekend at the shore. If you are adventurous, you can even take a 2-hour surfing tour. If, however, you are looking for something a little more laid back, you can take a private limo tour. What’s more, you will find lots of events in the city throughout the year, including fishing tournaments and live music.
5. South Padre Island
South Padre Island is another terrific getaway if you enjoy the sea. One of the things that’s great about the island is that is always in season, with warm temperatures even in winter. There is also plenty of things to do there, such as taking an eco boat tour. If you enjoy water sports, you can go surfing or paddleboarding. You can even go sea biking. There are further lots of great restaurants and bars on the island.
6. Bandera
Bandera is the place to go if you want to play cowboy for the weekend. Known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World,” Bandera offers horse riding and rodeos and lots of history at the Frontier Times Museum. They also have both a winery and brewery, and for something completely different be sure to visit the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum.
